#JioUsers Why now IUC will be charged on Jio users

JioUsers Why now IUC will be charged on Jio users

If you are a Reliance Jio user, then from 10 October i.e. from today you will have to pay six paise per minute for calling mobile users of any other company including Airtel or Vodafone.

However, if you use Reliance Jio, then you will not have to pay anything when you call another Jio user.

Jio has provided recharge vouchers ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 100 for making calls in other networks.

Jio consumer will get few IUC minutes on using these vouchers.

But in return for the amount of money the Jio user will spend on the voucher of the IUC, Jio will give them the same amount of data for free.

What is IUC Charge?

IUC i.e. Inter Connection Usage Charge is the amount that two telecom companies charge to negotiate among their customers.

Simply put, if a friend of yours uses Airtel's SIM and you use Reliance Jio's SIM, then whenever you call your Reliance Jio phone on the Airtel number, Jio will get Airtel as IUC charge One amount has to be paid at the rate of six paise per minute.

Reliance has given Rs 13,500 crore to other telecom companies as IUCs since its launch.

Reliance has also told that 25 to 30 crore missed calls are received daily on Jio network.

After this, 65 to 70 million minutes of calls are made daily from Reliance Jio's numbers to other networks.

In such a situation, Jio has to pay six paise per minute as IUC charge to these companies.

Why did Jio take this step?

Jio has said that it has been forced to take this decision due to the changing policies of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on IUC charges.

For a long time, it has been giving large amount of money in the form of IUC to other companies. She was assuming that after 2019, the IUC charge would be abolished.

TRAI has now asked the views of all the stake holders on this subject.

But if you look at the history of the IUC charge, the exercise is going on to abolish the IUC charge from the year 2011 onwards.

In the year 2017, TRAI reduced the IUC charge per minute from 14 paise to six paise.

TRAI also said that from January 1, 2020, this fee will be completely abolished. However, TRAI also said that this issue can be reconsidered once again.

In such a situation, the question arises that when Jio said during its launch in the year 2016 that it would never take money from its customers for voice calling.

And now Reliance is the largest telecom company in the country in terms of user base, so why did they take such a decision.

Prashanto Banerjee, an expert in telecom matters, believes that Reliance Jio has now left the era when it can bear any kind of loss.

He explains, "Reliance is ahead of the investment phase at this time. In such a situation, Reliance is no longer in a position to continue to spend money from its treasury as IUC. It is now in a phase of earning profit. Such I would not like that TRAI's decision will harm them in any way. So Reliance has changed its policy. "

Will Reliance benefit from this?

At first glance, it seems that Reliance will not have any benefit from this because the money that Jio will take from its users, they will give the money to Airtel or other telecom operators.

In addition, he will also provide free data in exchange for the expenditure on IUC vouchers.

But if you understand the mathematics of IUC, then it shows that it benefits the company which has more user base.

According to the official press release of Reliance Jio, Jio currently has 35 crore users.

At the same time, according to TRAI, Airtel has 300 million users.

At first glance, there is not much difference between Airtel and Reliance Jio in terms of users.

But Reliance Jio seems to be gradually leaving Airtel behind by implementing new and attractive schemes.

Prashanto Banerjee explains, "It is true that Reliance does not see any major benefit directly from this decision. All the plans of Reliance were based on the end of the IUC charge. But it is also true that the year 2017 In the year when TRAI decided to reduce the IUC, Reliance got a lot of benefit. Then the number of live subscribers was very less. "

"But we cannot ignore one thing that after the Reliance decision, there is a possibility of increasing the number of users of Jio users. If three out of five people in a family have Jio, then after this decision The prospects of the remaining two people joining the Jio seem strong. "
