Delhi Lieutenant Governor meets Shaheen Bagh protesters, appeal to end strike

Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal met a delegation of protesters from Shaheen Bagh on Tuesday and appealed to him to end the protest.  The Lieutenant Governor told the delegation of the protestors that this was causing problems to school children, patients and common people.

 An official said the eight-member delegation submitted a memorandum of demands to the Deputy Governor, including the withdrawal of the revised citizenship law.  Thousands of people have been protesting against the CAA and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) for nearly a month in Shaheen Bagh near Jamia Milia Islamia University and in Shaheen Bagh.

 Baijal tweeted, "Met a delegation of protesters from Shaheen Bagh.  Assured to raise their concerns before the concerned authorities.  Appealed to school children, patients, travelers, locals and others to end the picket in view of the problems faced by the road closed.  In another tweet, the Lt. Governor said, "I once again appeal to everyone to maintain peace and law and order."  Joint Commissioner of Police (Southern Region) Devesh Srivastava and Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) Chinmay Biswal were present in this meeting.

 Officials said that the Lieutenant Governor directed the police officers concerned to take all possible steps to maintain law and order and goodwill in the area.  At the same time during the day, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has asked the administration to identify and counsel children seen in demonstrations against the amended Citizenship Act (CAA) in Shaheen Bagh, Delhi.  In a letter written to the district official of the district, it is possible that the children who were present at the protest venue 'have mental copy due to rumors and incorrect information  Face facing
