New Delhi: The prestigious Padma Awards of the country to be given on the occasion of Republic Day 2020 has been announced. This time 141 celebrities working in other fields including society, entertainment, sports, health, industry, education have been selected for these awards. Among them, 7 Padma Vibhushan, 16 Padma Bhushan and 118 celebrities from India and abroad have been awarded the Padma Shri.
This time many celebrities working in the field of society have been selected to be awarded the Padma Shri Award. Abdul Jabbar, an activist who worked for the victims of the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy, has been posthumously awarded the Padma Shri. Apart from this, 118 people including Langar Baba Jagdish Lal Ahuja, Mohammad Sharif, Tulsi Gowda and Munna Master have been honored with the Padma Shri Award 2020.
Abdul Jabbar, an activist who fought for the rights of victims of the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy, has been posthumously awarded the Padma Shri. He died on 14 November 2019. At the same time, Jagdish Lal Ahuja, also known as Langar Baba, has also been awarded this highest award. Jagdish Ahuja provides free food to the families of poor patients in Chandigarh every day and also helps them in other ways. Langer Baba started serving free food in 1980.

Padma awards like Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri are the highest civilian awards in the country. These awards, started in 1954, are announced every year on Republic Day. These awards recognize exceptional work and achieve distinguished and extraordinary achievements in all fields such as arts, literature and education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, administrative service, trade and industry etc. Services are given for delivery. Any person of any race, occupation, position or gender is eligible for these awards. Government employees working in public sector undertakings except doctors and scientists are not eligible for Padma Awards
